At least two (2) years of tailor/seamstress experience. Quality customer service background. Ability to create patterns. Open availability required including weekends and holidays; shifts will be dependent on business levels and seniority scheduling. The Seamstress is responsible for maintaining and repairing team member uniforms, linens, drapery, upholstery, and guest room amenities. This role ensures all items are in proper condition, fit correctly, and meet the high standards of quality and presentation consistent with Hilton’s brand expectations. Specifically, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards. Visually assesses repair needs; accurately measure, alter, and mend employee uniforms, room linens, drapery, upholstery, guest room amenities, and other household items using a sewing machine. Perform manual repairs as needed, including sewing buttons and completing detailed handwork. Repair and inspect various linens, including bulky items such as upholstery and drapes, using an industrial sewing machine. Clean and maintain the sewing room, equipment, and tools to ensure proper working conditions and adequate inventory levels. Draft and fabricate patterns for uniforms and specialty items as required. Assures proper issuance and distribution of employee uniforms in the absence of Uniform Room Attendant or during heavy traffic periods. Reports all suspicious people or activates, hazardous conditions, etc. Responds in a timely manner in basic English language to guest requests for items such as an iron, safety instructions, assistance, direction, and/or other information as requested. Other duties as assigned, such as assisting Uniform Room Attendant when requested. The individual must possess the following knowledge, skills and abilities and be able to explain and demonstrate that he or she can perform the essential functions of the job, with or without reasonable accommodation. Ability to perform operations on a sewing machine, patching machine, surge machine, over lock machine, steamer, and household irons. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Visual ability and manual dexterity to perform detailed repair work. Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English language sufficient to communicate pleasantly and effectively with employees, staff and guests via the telephone, and/or in person. Ability to grasp, lift, and/or carry a maximum of 50 lbs. Ability to reach, bend, stoop, walk, to retrieve and re-file various supplies, uniforms, fabric, etc. at levels up to 6 feet high and stand for extended periods of time. Ability to push and/or pull equipment, linen, supplies, drapery, upholstery, uniforms and household items weighing up to 500 lbs. Ability to effectively deal with employee concerns in a friendly and positive manner. This involves listening to the nature of the concern, demonstrating empathy with the customer and providing positive and proactive solutions. Ability to sit for long periods of time. Previous experience using sewing machine proficiently and the ability to create patterns. Quality. Dependability. Customer Focus. Adaptability.
