Job Description
The Chief Engineer is responsible for overseeing the overall maintenance, safety, functionality, and operational efficiency of the hotel’s engineering and maintenance operations. This role ensures that all building systems, guest rooms, public areas, plant equipment, and back-of-house facilities are maintained to the highest standards in compliance with Hilton brand standards, local regulations, and safety requirements. The Chief Engineer leads the Engineering team to support exceptional guest experiences while driving preventive maintenance, sustainability initiatives, and cost-effective operations. Engineering Operations. Manage the day-to-day operations of the Engineering Department. Ensure all hotel equipment, systems, and facilities operate efficiently and safely. Oversee maintenance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, kitchen equipment, elevators, fire life safety systems, and mechanical systems. Implement and monitor preventive maintenance programs for guestrooms, public areas, and back-of-house facilities. Coordinate repair and maintenance works with external contractors and service providers. Leadership & Team Management. Lead, coach, and develop the Engineering team to ensure high performance and operational excellence. Conduct regular training on safety procedures, technical skills, and emergency response. Prepare duty rosters, manpower planning, and performance evaluations. Foster a positive and collaborative work environment aligned with Hilton values. Safety & Compliance. Ensure compliance with all local laws, building codes, fire regulations, environmental standards, and Hilton policies. Lead emergency response procedures and maintain readiness for incidents or equipment failures. Conduct regular safety inspections and risk assessments. Ensure all engineering documentation, permits, and certifications are up to date. Financial & Asset Management. Prepare and manage the Engineering Department budget. Monitor utility consumption and implement energy-saving initiatives to improve sustainability and reduce operating costs. Control maintenance expenses and inventory of engineering supplies and spare parts. Ensuring procurement process is managed efficiently. Support capital expenditure planning and asset replacement programs. Ensure prompt resolution of maintenance-related guest requests and issues. Maintain hotel facilities in accordance with Hilton brand standards and guest expectations. Support renovation and improvement projects to enhance guest satisfaction and operational efficiency. Degree or Diploma in Engineering, Facilities Management, or related field. Minimum 5–8 years of engineering experience in hospitality or commercial facilities management, with at least 3 years in a leadership role. Strong technical knowledge of building systems and hotel engineering operations. Familiarity with preventive maintenance systems and energy management practices. Knowledge of local safety regulations and fire life safety standards. Ability to work under pressure and respond effectively to emergencies. Proficient in Microsoft Office and maintenance management systems. As the Chief Engineer, you will be responsible for performing the following tasks to the highest standards. Guest Experience. Inspect all equipment and ensure efficient production and technology management of equipment maintenance. Read technical reports and check all daily reports to ensure safe and normal operations of all equipment. Arrange work intensity effectively to ensure maximum productivity and well-balanced labour. Implement maintenance repairs and ensure an effective maintenance program. Keep in contact with the Banquet department to be informed of event requirements to be prepared. Schedule periodical work reports to improve working efficiency of the Engineering department. Plan and implement multi-skills training for staff to improve work efficiency and quality. Carry out effective control on the purchase for Engineering stock to minimize wastage and maximize cost savings. Read water quality reports and ensure the supply of good quality water from the water treatment system. Coordinate with the Security department, hold fire prevention and safety meetings and ensure the effective operation of the fire prevention system. Monitor the energy usage, making statistics of energy consumption, and impose energy saving measures. Keep in contact with local authorities to solve related problems. Maintain efficient communications with other departments to form an effective communication net among different departments. Make good use of materials, minimize wastage and be environmentally friendly. A Chief Engineer serving Hilton Brands is always working on behalf of our Guests and working with other Team Members.
